Treasurer’s Report
Cassie Malloy reported on the club’s current finances – a
copy of which is available on request.
Cassie indicated that the club had received two bad checks.
Jenny Merritt said the wristband exchange went well and the
booth, well staffed.
Cassie Malloy suggested the acquisition of a second booth
next year so people have a better opportunity to view the informational display
as well as enjoy the dogs.
Connie Torres, per an email received from Donna McKinney,
suggested the club might invest in a picture-framing device like those she
noticed in other booths. To this, Jenny
Merritt suggested that she has a television with VHS and that Dana Merritt has
a video loop and power point presentation that might work well for this application. Cassie Malloy suggested a laptop set up to
loop through pictures would be another possibility. Cassie went on to say the club would have to
purchase power next year for any of the aforementioned suggestions.
Jenny Merritt said
that she took several pictures at this event.
She will send her favorite pictures to Coleen Case for the website and
annual. Coleen asked that a request be included in the newsletter for
three or four good pictures of this and other events be sent to her by club
members and the best will be chosen for the website and, possibility, the
annual.

Cassie Malloy said that she and Kristy Strunks had events
planned out and that a flyer would go out shortly before the appointed day.

Jenny Merritt requested raffle items be brought by all those
who attend and many pictures be taken.
Specialty
Cassie Malloy reported that, “we are approved”. Cassie stated that she has received
confirmation from Kim Washington but not from Peter Snow and has contacted
BaRay with status.
The Specialty Trophy Team, Bethany Dalton, Marji Haley and
Jenny Merritt reported on status of trophy planning. Marji Haley said there will be acrylic
trophies awarded on Friday, the size of which, to be determined. Marji Haley will embroider some of the prizes
and Jenny Merritt indicated that she is working with Tony and Gillian Wayne to
see if Myrtle wood trophies would be possible.
Jenny also said that Bethany Dalton made an excellent suggestion for
embroidered leashes as prizes.
Jenny Merritt said the National Club has put some money
toward trophies and the local will have to do some fundraising.
Cassie Malloy
suggested a request for trophy donations be added to the newsletter.
Jenny Merritt requested that everyone start thinking of
auction items.
Jenny Merritt reported that Dana Merritt is working on the
logo modification mentioned in earlier meetings.
New Business
Marji Haley presented a lovely blanket to Reina (Ron and
Connie Torres) for her participation in the 2007 Westminster Dog Show. Marji went on to state that her goal has been
to make blankets for all SBTCPS champions and requested that all those club
members who have not received a blanket to please send her the name of their dog.
Jenny Merritt asked if the club would sponsor Marji’s
blankets for club champions. It was
decided the club would allot $10 per blanket for the first

What we are up against as dog owners:
·
Small,
well organized group with a large bankroll.
(PETA has $125,000,000.)
·
Some
want to make breeding an offense, much like drunk driving
·
Many
who have opposed this group have faced
threats to their homes and children
·
Use
horrifying pictures from the 70’s and 80’s of piles of dead animals to promote
the idea of a serious over population
of dogs, even though the dog population in the east is less than the demand and
is just meeting demands on the west
coast
·
People
used to work with and know about dogs. Now
there are ‘designer breeds’ and dogs are viewed as accessories by many individuals who have no idea how to be a
responsible pet owner.
What we can do to promote our dogs:
Items discussed to make
a) Invite the governor and other
dignitaries
b) make an effort to personally invite
other groups
c) put ads in several local news papers
d) Place flyers in vet’s office, pet
food stores, groomers, etc.
e) have a dog chipping booth
f)
a
dog massage booth
