SKC Show and Meet the Breed 2009

The 2009 Seattle Kennel Club show and Meet The Breed event was held at QWest Field Event Center in February. Our club had a number of Staffy's entered in the show. But the other part of the event, Meet The Breed, always provides a great opportunity for us to show off our breed. During the two day event we have club members man a booth where people can learn all about our breed and meet some dogs. Once a person has a chance to see for themselves how friendly they are they are hooked!! Many new staffy owners have been a result of meeting our breed at this show. But what is probably the most fun is to watch our dogs and the kids get to know each other. Often the kids are a little cautious at first but a fast wagging tail always breaks the ice and friends are made quickly. All in all this is a wonderful event.

23rd Annual BC Staffy Walk
July 5, 2008

A strong showing of staffies and their loving owners once again came together for this year's 23rd Annual Canadian Staffy Walk and Fundraiser on July 5, 2008 in Langley, BC. The recurring theme to this year's walk was to rededicate our efforts in abolishing breed specific laws, which received another setback in the appeals court of Ontaria, Canada in October. We will keep you posted as the legal fight unfolds.

Generous owners took part in our annual BBQ as well as donating auction items and buying raffle tickets to raise funds for future legal battles. Owners socialized with each other trading staffy stories and introducing newcomers to the event.

The success of this year's event goes to all participants, including several staffy friends who made the trek from the U.S.A. A big thank you to Randi, Tom, Cassie, Jim, Joe, and Lacy from SBTCPS (the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Puget Sound in Seattle) for their continued assistance in donating and transporting items as well as helping to set up.

The traditional "walk" was followed by an auction of donated items, and finally hot dogs, chips, and drinks. The highlight event was the annual "weiner dunking race" where hungry staffies competed in teams to retrieve the elusive wiener from a bowl of water. This year's competition was evenly matched with owners as eager as their dogs in this team event. A group photo around our banner and the distribution of participation "certificates" capped another successful event.

Next year's walk has already been set.

Spring Fling 2008

Once again our club started off the new year with a spring get together. Halloween Party
October 21, 2006

Even with just a handful of people we truly had a howling good time. Jim and Fergus provided the best dressed duo this year. Elvis would have been proud! Joe and Desmo in their matching plaid pants, Lacy along with Geisha girl Diva and Coleen with Rock Star Blaze and his groupie Star rounded out this years costumes. On hand to howl at the group was Cassie, Scott with Happy and Tosh. Look for more pictures and details in this years annual

21th Annual BC Staffordshire Bull Terrier Walk
July 1, 2006

Alex Hope Park in Langely, BC once again was the staging ground for the annual Canadian Staffordshire Bull Terrier Walk. This years walk was extra special because it not only celebrated 21 years of staffys and their families getting together, but highlighted the urgency of defending our wonderful breed from onerous legislation passed in the province of Ontario, Canada last year. The ill-conceived legislation places an outright ban on many bull breeds, including staffys. A major legal challenge, under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, has been mounted in the Supreme Court of Canada. Proceeds from his year's walk will be donated to the legal defense fund for continuing the court challenge.

The success of this year's event goes largely to all those who came out, including several staffy friends who made the trek from the United States. As usual, sunny skies prevailed and a healthy contingent of 28 dogs showed up for the event.

Following the traditional "walk around the park" , participants were treated to a raffle of a variety of unique items generously donated by those who participated. Other activites included our traditional wiener dunking race. This challenged both owners and dogs, right to the finish line! A hot dog BBQ (no we didn't use the same hot dogs!) was added to the menu of activities. Each staffy showing up received a special "21st" Anniversary Participation Certificate" to put in their scrap books to mark their participation in this year's event. The event finished with the traditional group photo opportunities in front of the annual staffy walk banner.

Thank you to all the participants for your generosity and continued support in making this year's event the success it was!

The 22nd Annual Stafforshire Bull Terrier Walk will take place on the first Saturday in July, 2007. So mark your calendars and come join us. For more information on the Staffy Walk contact Mike or Lisa at: percivalius@telus.net or call them at (604) 420-6508.

Halloween Party 2005

14 Staffords treated their owners with a costume party on October 15th at the home of Coleen Case. To begin the day everyone had a good time visiting. Then the dogs paraded out around the cul-de-sac in their costumes. Residents in the neighborhood even came out to the street to watch all the fun!!.

The judges picked Otis, Chloe, Raz, as the three best costumes. Honorable mention went to Deuce. The top three winners received a bowl of goodies as a "treat".

Dogs and people gobbled up lots of good treats, played and talked after the parade. Thank you to everyone who came and made our Halloween costume party for the dogs a great success. We hope to do it again next year.

20th Annual BC Staffordshire Bull Terrier Walk

On July 2nd, 2005 the 20th annual BC Dog Walk was held at Alex Hope park in Langley, BC. It has been 20 years since this event was first held in Vancouver. The originators of the event - - Mike and Lisa along with Darci Swinton (John had to work Saturday) were our hosts. There was a tremendous turnout of 46 Staffys and their escorts. Many club members from the Seattle area journeyed up to BC to join BC club members and other good Staffy owners for the day. The weather started out with a little rain just to remind us that we were indeed still in the great Northwest !! But by noon the clouds began to part and we had sunshine for the afternoon. The event got started with a good opportunity for everyone to greet old friends and make some new ones during a social hour. Then Lisa led the walk around Alex Hope part and back while Mike and others stayed behind to start BBQing hot dogs. By the time we got back it was time for lunch and more visiting. After everyone was full it was time for the dogs to show their stuff. Mike got it started by organizing a hot dog dunking/eating race. Then everyone enjoyed a t-shirt race followed by a small obstacle/chair race. Once the games were over there was a raffle of prizes. Finally it was time for group pictures. As the day came to an end Lisa presented each participant with a certificate and thanked them for coming. Everyone agreed, this is a great event and we are all looking forward to 20 more years! THANKS TO OUR BC HOSTS AND FRIENDS.

2005 April Fools Fun Day

This year our spring fun day was an April Fools theme held on April 2. Approximatly 15 Staffordshires with their owners and friends attended. We also had several guests who are waiting to obtain a Staffy and they took advantage of this great opportunity to observe a large number of dogs and partake in the fun.

To begin the day everyone visited with each other and met new friends.

Next Coleen Case gave a talk and demonstration about what is expected when you take the CGC test.

Fun activities included socializing, snacks, a raffle, and many freebies for the dogs. Cassie hid plastic Easter eggs filled with dog treats. As soon as the dogs realized there were treats inside each egg, the hunt was on!!. Other games included Fergus's favorite, "Bobbing for the hot dogs", and the t-shirt relay.

After the games and refreshments everyone continued to visit and trade their favorite Staffy stories. A good time was had by all.

2004 SBTCPS Specialty

The weather may not have been perfect all 3 days, but everyone had a good time. The entry count was 31 this year with several new faces in our show ring. Outside the ring there were also several new faces who will be in the ring soon. The club BBQ and Silent Auction on Saturday night was fun, rain free, and as always a success. A full write up, results and pictures will be in the 2004 annual which will come out in early 2005.

2004 BC Staffordshire Bull Terrier Walk

On July 3rd the 19th annual BC Dog Walk was held at Alex Hope park in Langley, BC. This year 24 Staffys got together to share smells, growls, food, fun games and a general good time. They brought with them 35 guest humans whom the Staffys showed all the sights of the park on their walk. Our hosts again this year were Spencyr and Chelsea along with their guests Mike Proniuk and Lisa Daum. A special moment during the day was when the oldest "Chelsea" (at 792 weeks old) was joined by the youngest "Star"(at 19 weeks). As always, a good time was had by all. Thanks again to the Hosts for another fun outing.

2004 St Patrick's Stafford Fun Day

The Annual St. Patricks Stafford Fun Day was a success again this year. Fourteen Staffys brought twenty humans along to enjoy the day. It is always great to meet new people and dogs as well as visit with old friends.

Fun activities included socializing, snacks, a raffle, and many freebies for the dogs. Some of the games included "Bobbing for the hot dog" and the t-shirt relay. Jenny Merritt also gave a short instuctional talk and demonstration on handling for the show ring. This was very helpful for some of the younger Staffys in attendance.

After the games and refreshments there was a general Agility course set up. Everyone had a great time trying out the different equipment. Just about every Stafford learned some basics with ease.

This event has become one of our clubs favorites. All Staffy owners should plan on attending next year to enjoy this great change of pace after a long winter. The event marks the beginning of another great summer just ahead of us.

2004 Seattle KC Show and Meet The Breed

The SBTCPS once again participated in the Seattle Kennel Club show. There were 7 Staffords entered in the show on Saturday with Lucy handled by Jenny Merritt taking best of breed.

Our club's booth on the main floor was a very popular place. Guests were able to meet our dogs and ask questions about the breed. Of course the dogs loved the attention and all that petting! Our Staffordshires were among those featured in the Terrier group part of the "Meet The Breed". Jenny and Cassie presented Lucy and Happy while Lynne Myall discussed the breed - - origin of the breed and the initial purpose, specific confirmation standards, and their personality traits.

A big Thank You to the show committee, hospitality committee, and everyone who participated and made the Specialty weekend worthwhile.

    2002 Specialty Show

The Puget Sound 2002 Specialty (second annual) was a great success! SBTCPS considers the entry of Staffords at the All Terrier Club of Western Washington (ATCWW) Group Show as their Specialty. For two years Staffords have had the largest number of entries of Terriers - this year our entry was 41 Staffords. Best Of Breed went to Ch.Celebrity Rose Of Lone Star (breeder: Grace Haynes; owners: Zane Smith and Fern Owen). Best Of Opposite Sex went to Trugrip Baxstaff MB Spencyr (breeders: Jenny Merritt & Jake Murray; Owners: Lisa Dawn & Mike Proniuk).

In addition to the Specialty, SBTCPS also supports the entry at the Saturday and Sunday Nisqually Kennel Club All-Breed shows. Congratulations to winners at those shows, with Best of Breed going to Ch Celebrity Rose of Lone Star on Saturday and Ch Trugrip Knight Sky on Sunday.

The show site is St. Martins College in Lacey, Washington. The show rings are surrounded by lovely grounds with many trees and grassy areas as well as walking trails behind and around the college. While Seattle and vicinity are known for lots of rain, it can get warm in the summer, especially August. SBTCPS reserves two side-by-side RV parking spaces where we cordon off an area for our canopies, tables, Bar-B-Q and other fun activities throughout the weekend. This is an area where Stafford owners can come to visit and have a safe, shady place for their dogs to relax. After the Saturday show we held our Bar-B-Q and a silent auction of Stafford collectibles. We also had lots of information and freebies for everyone.

Specialty events take a lot of coordination and hard work! A huge THANK YOU goes to everone who assisted with the event. The entire Board did their part and many other people chipped in to help over the weekend. For example, Randall, Bethanie, and Sara who bravely put up the canopies, and Mike Proniuk who cooked burgers for all!!

The most important part of the event is getting so many Stafford enthusiasts together in one place. It was particularly exciting to have Zane Smith of New York at the show as part of the ATCWW judges seminar and Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Mickelson as our Specialty judge. Also, Bonnie Cresse and family made the trip out from Utah, Karen Dawes came up from San Diego, and Dayna Lemke from Northern California (both for the second year in a row). Support from Oregon, Eastern Washington, and Canada was great again this year. Again, Thanks to all.

    2001 Specialty Show

Our FIRST SPECIALTY SHOW was held on a HOT!! August weekend and was a huge success. The entry of 48 Staffords was the largest entry of Terriers at the All Terrier Club of Western Washington's second Group Show. The numbers held up nicely throughout the weekend, with 36 Staffords on Saturday and 34 on Sunday. It was great to see people at this event from all over the country. In addition to Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia, there were people from Utah, Indiana, Colorado, and California. Our club brought in Colin Powell from England to judge the Staffordshire breed. His choice for Best of Breed was CH. PROVOCO COOL JAZZ AT DONNELLA'S .

The show committee did a great job, and the hospitality on Sunday evening was a big success. In spite of the hot weather, everyone came for the BBQ, silent auction, and raffle drawing. And of course there is always a great deal of socializing with other Stafford enthusiasts. Our own Jim Leising of Arlington was the winner of the bronze Stafford bust .
